Limits of online consultations

Remote care is not suitable for every clinical situation and does not always replace an in-person appointment.

  • A first seizure. This requires a neurological examination and appropriate imaging and electrophysiological tests, including EEG and MRI. An online consultation can help discuss the next steps in assessment.
  • Emergencies. A seizure lasting more than 5 minutes, repeated seizures or prolonged impaired awareness require calling 112 or attending an emergency department.
  • The need for a physical examination. If you need a neurological examination or urgent investigations, you will receive clear information on the next steps.

Preparing for your consultation

A useful consultation depends on having complete information. Prepare up-to-date details and medical records before the appointment.

  1. An up-to-date list of medicines and doses, including all medicines, not only antiseizure medication. A printout or screenshot from your Internet Patient Account may help.
  2. Medical records including discharge summaries, EEG and MRI reports and neurology clinic records. Prepare legible scans or photographs before the appointment.
  3. A seizure diary with dates, circumstances, duration and symptoms. If you do not keep a diary, try to recall episodes over recent months.
  4. A seizure recording if a relative has safely recorded an episode. This can provide valuable diagnostic information.
  5. A list of questions to discuss during your appointment.

How the consultation works

The consultation follows a clear sequence: booking and records, the medical discussion, then written recommendations.

Step 1

Booking

Booking information: contact page.

Step 2

Medical records

Medical records are provided through a secure form and reviewed before the discussion.

Step 3

Video consultation

Discussion of treatment, seizure control, side effects and test results.

Step 4

Recommendations

After the appointment you receive written advice and, when appropriate, electronic prescriptions and referrals.

Medication safety

Do not stop antiseizure medicines or change their doses yourself.

This also applies after a long seizure-free period. Sudden withdrawal can cause seizures to recur, including life-threatening emergencies. Any decision to stop treatment should be made with your treating doctor, gradually and according to an agreed plan.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about ongoing treatment, records, payment and situations requiring an in-person visit.

Will my usual medicines be prescribed?

An electronic prescription is issued after reviewing your records and history, when the doctor considers ongoing treatment justified and safe. Prescribing is not automatic and not every consultation results in a prescription.

Can I attend with incomplete medical records?

Yes, but at least a current medicine list and information about when and where epilepsy was diagnosed are needed. Some records are available in the Internet Patient Account at pacjent.gov.pl.

Is the consultation covered by the NFZ?

No. This is a private, self-funded service.

Can I arrange a consultation for a relative?

Yes, with the patient’s consent and, where possible, their participation. Online consultations are for adults only.

What if I need an in-person appointment?

You will receive clear advice on the need for an in-person appointment or investigations, including where to seek further care.
